Bloomberg/Scarborough

Scary!
I hope I can find a recent Michael Bloomberg interview where he whined about the expiration of the Bush tax cuts for the rich. Whine may not be an accurate description of it, but an accurate description of the expiration of the tax cuts for the rich was not in the interview either. For now I will have to whine that I can't find it. His whine did not demonstrate a basic understanding of the tax code, where each bracket of income is taxed the same for everyone. The next dollar one earns does not make the poor rich person a second class citizen.

My point is that the two articles, before I read them, seemed to indicate a proper balance. Unbeknownst to me the McClatchy was even updated but I have now read the original McClatchy (Point-above) it was based on, as well as the other two (Counter-Point) and find my original embedded feeling that it was a good transition balance from military to political focus. This is a multidimensional* refocus, which even Rand Paul has played a reasonable part in. The focus is not so much on July 2011, but ultimate success**, and the aim to bring the discussion from military to political focus. Must we be reminded that while Congress does have the powers of the purse and war, the President is commander-in-chief and there is no real constitutional branch of diplomacy or foreign policy or Department of Peace.

What Obama can't say.

Chris Matthews says Obama must do something to show he gets it. But what really needs to happen is that the people need to get it. Get it?[***]

[11-12-10 We aren't even sure the Debt Panel gets it. Often we aren't even sure what (or who) it is to get, but a recent comment by Thom Hartmann spurred me to comment as he closed his show with: "we need to start making things." While that is partially correct, is it not a bit too into the "consumption racket"*? Why not say we need to start valuing things? Would that not shine the irony on our market system? Maybe I am being too subtle. Maybe I am being too idealistic. But both these shine the light on the complexity of reality. My point ends and begins in The Republic, and (regards the irony of)** Platonic Justice.

But I will preemptively summarize what I feel is the Obama approach, broad brush change, that started with his domestic agenda, through diplomacy and security issues, ending in global support for change. Wow, when I start a broad brush, I really swath. But in particular I mean global monetary policy, and I forgot to note the issue of trade policy, in this step up the paint ladder.]

Sometimes bracketed material is a preface, and
now to the matters that triggered this tangent.
It was a surprise to me and others that the Debt Panel released its(or rather the co-chair's) plan, an interesting update to my comments in the update regarding the chart and debt. It is probable that the chart, may not include social security, and regarding medicare, off the chart going forward. But given the shotgun approach, not really a good metaphor(as aim is not the point), but as a matter of breadth and coverage, it is all over the map and "harpooned every whale"***. While the origin of the Debt Panel(link hopefully to be inserted)is in question, (was it Obama's or a Republican idea) it does seem to fit my theory of Obama. The solutions to our economy are very broad, and inter-related, and hinge on the balance of what government does, more particularly does it create jobs or the environment for the economy. The answer is usally, if not always, both to some degree. In this regard, any wholesale dismissal of the plan is in as much error as even calling it a plan. It seems a well crafted way to put everything on the table, not that it will all be called for or passed.

Veterans Day

Service and Sacrifice.
[Timing is not everything. My intent was to have this automatically post at midnite. However I was uncertain it had not posted prematurely, so I saved it in draft. Speaking of prematurely, the sacrifice noted in the Youtube makes those left behind the veterans, while the departed have their day of honor on memorial day. While some have taken the route that pursuing the end of(a) war does injustice to veterans, it is more complicated or awkward to accept the contrary.]

My point is that debt is not the primary problem, although maybe growth is. Debt to GDP is not really a problem either...yet, note the peak in the 1940's proceeded by the growth in the middle class(cni)* and continued growth in GDP(cni). What also occured in the subsequent years, increase in wages, increase in consumption, and increases in taxes.(cni) Correlary: taxes are not the primary or secondary problem either, they are a fraction of the solution.

After two day exile, MSNBC will return him to the air. While not blogging on it myself,(I did not panic) between friends I noted, that good would come from it. Not so much the book as the difference between FOX and MSNBC. (Con text)

Rachel Maddow Effect

Well, not really.
The Scott Brown effect should really be called the Tea Party Vaccine Effect.
[Actually to be fair and balanced(not to pun on FAUX news) but this really hinges simply on the Scott Brown/Tea Party(ish) claim that what happened in Massachusetts could happen across the country. That is really an uphill job in that state, and the connection to what happened in the rest of the country really had to do more with the targeting of money and conservative/tea party on Republican and swing districts. I have not really looked at that piece of data, but it seems to be a natural dynamic as well. Moderates are knocked off because they have to be moderate in swing districts. I don't think that Massachusetts was ignored by the influences of money and party powers but the people may have learned from the Scott Brown rhetoric. And naturally liberals and progressives are so, because their people may agree with them. So this really balances the dilemma whether the nation or even a state, needs to be more moderate or progressive[**].

Subset of misunderstanding: Bush was good for Wall Street. The bailouts were passed under Obama. "Government Motors" was socialism.
It is not very energizing to whine that people don't get it. But it is also the fault of the media and the Democrats for not getting the message out. However analysis is still coming in. Reportedly: Tea Party success was 60%**. Progressive Democratic successes was 99%***, which I am not so* sure how it was calculated.

C. If Obama owns the economy, which he may have said(but I quibble) it is not because he has gotten everything he wants. Nobody really owns the economy. In fact, nobody even owns the solutions, let alone get it* their way.

Just before Rapid-Fire you ripped Obama on Boehner. First, Boehner has mentioned "no compromise". So to be confrontational, Obama must lead with that. Second, since Republicans are the party of "know"(of course we know-no) the Senate must be the party of yes and say yes to reconciliation and the filibuster. Of course it is not black and white, but I mean being the party of "yes we can." Pass it on.

[Actually I did not have the link in mind when I started this post, but unlike many I insert, I have read it completely. I had also previously been wondering why Paul Krugman does not have more influence. I think it is because he does not talk down to his readers, and if he does, the rest of his message is not understood. Not to continue some word play on the letter T, but timing is sometimes everything. Well, nothing is ever everything, but it is always a part of change and existence. So in this case, I suggest that another Key is Obama. Just like the Laugher Curve and one could say that it is more about location, (No Real Estate Pun), please read the above Paul Krugman column with timing, and location in mind. So...sides aside(Keynesian** is not Kenyan) keep in mind that change depends on both timing and location, not to mention that* in other areas***.

Let them eat cake!

And have it too. OK, I am mixing metaphors or idioms. But apparently the Republicans deserve congratulations for taking the House and the Democrats have just escaped losing the Senate. A question was asked; why did this happen? The above was a bit of a spin on my first thought. My later thought was that people had not had enough. The(y)[*] had not gotten enough change, and hopefully they will not get more of the same. I would say this falls under the category of two previous comments. The Economy Stupid and Foreign Legions.

As CNN looks at the polls for 2012, I might as well look back. A few weeks ago, George Bush noted his biggest failure as not privatizing social security. Now he has recalled the worst moment of his presidency was being called a racist by Kanye West. Hmmm. At the time of the first comment, I said: Imagine a Democrat saying that, after having September 11th on their watch. Then imagine the reaction by the right and FOX. Then tell me there is a liberal media.
